Baščaršija

Old bazaar·Baščaršija

The heart of old Sarajevo

About Baščaršija

Baščaršija, founded in the 15th century, was the commercial heart of Ottoman Sarajevo, with each street named after the craft practised there: Kazandžiluk for coppersmiths, Sarači for saddlers, Bravadžiluk for locksmiths. It is still full of small shops, workshops, cafés and grills, and pigeons gather around the Sebilj on the main square.
