About ARK D-0 Atomic War Command, Konjic
Hidden in the hillside at Konjic, the D-0 ARK atomic shelter covers 6,500 square metres underground. It was built in secret between 1953 and 1979 to protect 350 members of Yugoslavia’s military and political leadership in a nuclear war. Since 2014 it has been a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Project Biennial of Contemporary Art has turned it into a hybrid art and military museum, with works lent by artists from around the world. Our advice: check visiting arrangements with the project before you travel.
